Read with Me Ministry Reading Program

Provides volunteers to help the children at Mecca Elementary school learn to read and speak in English.

Beginning November through the last week of April a bus will be parked out in front of Sacred Heart Church every school day, Monday through Friday.

Volunteers' may choose the day of the week as well as the grade level they wish to work with.

After orientation, volunteers  disperse to their assigned classrooms where the teacher will give you your “assignment”. An “assignment” may include : helping children with pronunciation and comprehension , assisting children with their classroom assignments and group reading.

New Volunteers

New volunteers may just show up at Sacred Heart for the bus on the day they would like to volunteer.

All the children come from homes  where no English is spoken. Their only opportunity to hear English spoken is in the classroom by their teacher, however,   the volunteers do not need to know Spanish.  The job is to simply pay attention to the children and to let them hear you speak !  Join us ! It’s Fun !

You will meet a lot of nice people and the children are adorable. Most importantly, you will be doing God’s work .

Schedule

· Volunteers should arrive and sign in between 8:10 and 8:20AM.

· The Bus leaves Sacred Heart promptly at  8:20am to arrive at the Mecca School approximately at 9:00am.

· Upon arrival at Mecca School new volunteers'  will go to the school office for a brief orientation.

· Volunteers may choose the day of the week they would like to volunteer as well as the grade level.                               

· After orientation volunteers will go to their assigned classroom.

· The Bus will depart from the school at 11:00 AM and return to Sacred Heart parking lot before Noon.
