ABOUT THE EVENT - Please join us for our 6th Annual Patriot Weekend / Patriot Ride For Our Heroes charity cycling event! Local charities related to Fire, Military, & Police are direct beneficiaries of this event. Come out and cycle, and/or walk to honor all those who sacrifice so much for our freedom and safety! This is a cycling event for everyone: all ages, all abilities.
Once the United States Garrison Flag is raised, cyclists riding 10, 30, 50, or 100 miles will be escorted through hundreds of American flags, fire engines, law enforcement vehicles, military vehicles, motorcycles holding flags, accompanied by Patriotic music played by over 150-piece High School bands and much more.
Do not miss out on volunteering for this spectacular event, and cheer our riders on!

Elms Mobile Home Community - Food Box Delivery Service Project
Time: 8:30am meet time at the Narrow Door.
IMPORTANT: We will be delivering food boxes door-to-door. In order for a student to participate in this particular volunteer event, a Parent/Guardian is required to volunteer and stay the entire time. If you are unable to volunteer with your child, please do not sign up for this event. Thank you!
This is an ongoing service opportunity for the school year. We will be visiting Elms mobile home community with food boxes the third Saturday of every month. After picking up the food boxes from the Narrow Door warehouse, we will deliver the boxes to the families living in Elms Mobile Home Community. This is a service project we started during the 2015-2016 school year, the support and dedication from SHS students and families has been a blessing. Visiting Elms on a consistent basis has allowed us to develop relationships with the individuals and families we are there to help, and has also given us a better understanding of their needs. It is a wonderful way for your child to see first-hand the need that exists in our community, as well as understand the impact they can have by serving others. This opportunity is meant for parent & child to volunteer alongside each other.
Please do not sign up if you are unable to volunteer with your child. They will not be able to participate without a parent/guardian.

The Desert Recreation District is hosting an annual Halloween Carnival that provides a safe and secure environment for children to participate in fun activities, games, and receive candy. Volunteers will run booths.

SCRAP Gallery Booth at Howl-O-Ween
The Living Desert is hosting the wildly popular Howl-O-Ween, a not-so-spooky zoo adventure. The 23nd annual Howl-O-Ween is set for Saturday, October 27 from 9 am to 12pm and Wednesday, October 31 from 6-8:30pm.
Students will be volunteering for S.C.R.A.P. Gallery at the arts and crafts table for children. The S.C.R.A.P. Gallery is a unique environmental art museum and engaging mobile program that delivers art and environmental education to children throughout the Coachella Valley. By using donated discarded materials, students of all ages learn about conservation, reuse and other environmental issues through hands-on exploration. The students will be working the arts and crafts booth.
Students must wear jeans, uniform bottoms, or bermuda length shorts with blue SHS volunteer shirt and tennis shoes. No cell phone use is permitted.

'Caravan of Love' to local Fire and Police stations
SHS families are embarking on a 'Caravan of Love' to our local fire stations and police stations to thank them for their service. To show our heartfelt appreciation for all they do to keep us safe, we will be providing every station that we visit with baked goods, snacks, and Thank You cards. I encourage everyone to dress patriotic - wearing red, white, or blue. All are welcome to join us! Jr. High students will earn service hours.
We will be visiting stations located in Palm Desert, Indian Wells, Rancho Mirage, and La Quinta. A map of stops will be given at meet up location.
Ideas of what to bring: 'Thank you' cards, cookies, brownies, cupcakes, chips, individually wrapped snacks, ice cream is a favorite of the firefighters, supplies for root beer floats, muffins, ingredients to use for cooking, prepared meals, new pots and pans, kitchen items, Gatorade, hand sanitizer, toiletry items, athletic socks, gift cards, etc. In the comment section, please leave what you will be providing.
Jr. High students will earn 2 service hours.

SCRAP Gallery Monthly Childrens' Art Party

The SCRAP Gallery and the Agnes Pelton Society hosts the Children monthly Art Party at the Cathedral City Art Gallery, 68895 Perez Road, Suite I-27 (across from Frankie’s Italian Bakery) on the Second Saturday of each month from 1-3 PM. (Students will receive 2 hours)
Participants create art pieces made of recyclable materials and also meet and work with a local guest artist, who will share his/her work as well as conduct an art making activity in their style discipline. Light refreshments, games, and entertainment.
The mission of the SCRAP Gallery is to actively engage youth as stewards of their environment through concentrated, hands-on, education effort stressing the Four R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Responsibility. The Agnes Pelton Society is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is to preserve the legacy of the posthumously celebrated Cathedral City painter, Agnes Pelton, by supporting Coachella Valley artists and advocating for Arts education.

Stuff the Bus for SafeHouse of the Desert
SafeHouse of the Desert provides immediate help to youth and families experiencing crisis situations. When families come to us, they’re usually at their wit’s end—parents are frustrated and children don’t know where to turn. Our staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for teens and their families who need help negotiating the often challenging road from childhood to independent adult life.
They are seeking volunteers to assist with donation collection at the 5th Annual Stuff the Bus. This is a very important event to collect items for for the youth in the shelter, youth in the group home and young adults in the transitional living program. In addition to collecting items to use throughout the year, this is a great way to help spread the message of the vital services that SafeHouse offers, in the event that someone we come across may find themselves in need. Students will collect items as shoppers leave the store and handout flyers to those going in.

The Coachella Valley Autism Society of America is hosting their 2nd Annual Halloween Spooktacular Carnival Fundraiser that provides a safe and secure environment for special needs children to participate in fun activities, games, music, trick-or-treating, and more. Volunteers will:: set-Up & Tear Down, Vendor Check-in & Help, Carnival Game Attendants, Ticket Booth, Bounce House Attendants, Help with the Raffle, & More!

Galilee Center Thanksgiving Food Distribution
Help make a difference in the lives of low income families in the Eastern Coachella Valley by offering families a hand-up through Galilee Center's Thursday food distribution. 10 students and 2 parents (parent volunteer hours are given) are needed. 2 hours will be given.
Students must wear SHS volunteer shirt (or SHS PE shirt), tennis shoes, and PE shorts/jeans/bermuda shorts. No short shorts. No cell phone use during volunteering time you must take a photo at the Galilee Center to include on your service hour reporting form. Please take you service hour form to be signed by a Galilee Center representative. You can find the form at http://www.sacredheartpalmdesert.com/outreach_program
Please arrive at 2:30pm to be assigned a task and given instructions. Parent Volunteer must stay with the kiddos until they are picked up. Parents are expected to plan to be a bit early for pick-up to avoid being late.

LOL is (Learning about Our Lord) a Youth Ministry Introduction for kids in grades 2 through 5. L.O.L. meets Thursdays from 5:30 – 7 p.m. in the Salta Center Gym. Volunteers are needed each week - you may sign up for 3 weeks for 3 total hours.
