Chapter 1 of your story due on June 1 (email it to me if you typed it).

This is an extra credit assignment available to all students:

Choose a chapter book that is at least a 5.8 reading level.  Write a book report according to the following guidelines:

      Cover page:

      Title

      Author

      Genre: (fiction or non-fiction)

      Your Name

      Grade

      In your report include:

      The Theme

      The Plot

      The Setting (or settings)

      Main Character(s)

      Protagonist (Hero)

      Antagonist (Villain)

The Hero's journey. This is the largest part of your report.  Here you will trace the journey of the hero, through the cycle, identifying the key events and how they correspond to the cycle.  Use your notes on the cycle as a reference. Make sure you include the helpers and the sage.  Also include the resolution- how the hero changed from a lowly or normal individual to a "hero" and what he/she learned and brings back home.  Use the Hero's Journey headings above each paragraph you write that corresponds to the cycle. For example, under "Flight", you would include a paragraph about the hero on his way back to his "home" with the knowledge or evidence of his successful victory against his opponent.  He might have "the head of the dragon" with him, or a reward of somekind.  He is not entirely safe yet, as he travels back to his home.  Here is the cycle to reference: http://orias.berkeley.edu/hero/

Include one excerpt from the book that you feel is really great writing and tell why you think so.

A book report that receives full credit will raise your grade one level (ex. If you have a C+ it will put you at a B- ;  If you have a A- it will put you at an A, etc.)

This assignment is due May 31.
