Sponsors and supports the individuals who are participating in the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) process preparing to become a Catholic.
A sponsor is the companion and support person for a catechumen, candidate or Baptized Catholic who is completing the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist). The sponsor must have made all Sacraments of Initiation and be an active, practicing Catholic in full communion with the Catholic Church.
Our Church is a church of community. We are all members of the Body of Christ and belong to the Communion of Saints. So the candidates are not expected to walk this journey alone. Becoming a Catholic is an exciting journey. And acting as a sponsor is an opportunity to enrich, reaffirm, and deepen your own faith. A sponsor is someone who will share their faith and to whom the candidate can ask questions and discuss doubts. The sponsor acts as a representative for the Sacred Heart parish community.
The RCIA process usually is scheduled each season from the end of September until Pentecost. We meet on Thursday evenings at 6:45pm until 8:30pm.
