Hospital Ministry

Please join our Hospital Minister’s team.  There are two ways to serve:

Faith Representatives:
This Ministry is to serve Catholic’s only.  You would be serving Holy Communion to patients.  You are asked to serve a minimum of 4 hours once a week, Monday through Friday and Sunday’s.  We can accommodate whichever day you prefer.
 
In order to conform to San Bernardino Diocese requirements, you must be certified with the following certificates.

*A letter of recommendation from Father  Howard Lincoln
*Certificate from Bishop Gerald Barnes and wallet card designating you as being appointed to serve as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion
*Live Scan Finger Printing and Background Check
*Certificate of completion of San Bernardino Diocese online training as Mandated Reporter
**Certificate of completion of San Bernardino Diocese online training for Safe Environment

*Certificate of completion for Visitor’s to the Sick (you have 3 years to complete this training)
*Completed Eisenhower Medical Center Pastoral Services application

Note:  all of the above can be completed easily with help from the Coordinator of Hospital Minister’s for Sacred Heart Church
Once the above is completed, you will need to hand in the above paperwork to Chaplain Vincent McMorrow-Purcell at Eisenhower Medical Center Pastoral Services and then complete:
*Hospital Volunteer Training
*Faith Representative Training
*Tuberculosis Testing-hospital funded
After all of the above is completed, you will start the Mentoring Program which is usually 2 weeks of rounds at the hospital with your mentor, prior to you serving alone.

Certified Chaplain at Eisenhower Medical Center:
This Ministry is to serve all faiths.  You are asked to serve a minimum of 4 hours once a week.  Certification as Chaplain requires all of the above plus:

*Attending Chaplaincy Training, provided yearly at Eisenhower Medical Center.  This training is held for 8 continuous weeks, one day a week for 4 hours.
