THANKS TO DENNIS AND THE OTHER MODERATORS FOR COORDINATING THE TWO GROUPS EACH MONTH DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR. IT HAS BEEN A HONOR WORKING WITH THE TEACHERS AND THE YOUNG ADULTS. YOU HAVE BEEN A BIG FACTOR IN THE SUCCESS OF THE DELIVERY PROGRAM. WE WILL MISS YOU ALL!!!

RECAP OF PACKING DAY SEPTEMBER 19TH:

FACTOID: Since June of 2009, 1283 volunteers have packed 16,495 boxes. Totaling 758,000 pounds of food.

ADDITIONAL FACTOID: The 1223 packing volunteers have consumed 1325 donuts and cookies, 1950 cups of coffee and 3350 water bottles. ( Once again, I had several requests to remove this factoid but it is too full of good sugar/carb information to eliminate. Nice try anonymous people )

NOTICE:
For the remainder of the year we will packing 400 boxes. Many factors have entered into this decision which are part of the transition of the program for 2012. More details in the coming months.

On Monday we had 60  volunteers, 39 regular and 21 Marriott volunteers.

BIG SHOUT OUT TO THE MARRIOTT FOLKS AGAIN. WE EXPECTED 5 PEOPLE AND GUESS WHAT???

AT 8:25 THE MARRIOTT FOLKS STARTED ARRIVING.  WOW, SUDDENLY WE HAD 21 ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEERS. THEY JUMPED RIGHT IN AND COMPLIMENTED THE REGULARS IN THE PACKING PROCESS.  WE WERE DONE WITH PACKING AND CLEANUP BY 9:10.

Once again, thanks to the Marriott Corporation for coming to our assistance again during the summer months when we need assistance most.  Hope to see you next year. Thanks for all your assistance. Please forward this email to all who assisted us on Monday.

Each box was filled with Flour, Rice, Top Ramen Soup, Sliced Peaches, Stewed Tomatoes, Fruit Cocktail, Mac and Cheese, Whole Peeled Tomatoes and Corn.

Each of the 400 boxes weighed approximately 35 pounds.. We received approximately 18,000 pounds net weight of food from our local suppliers and total gross weight was approximately 28,000 pounds. Once again, we are keeping the numbers the same each month with prudent purchasing and cooperative pricing from Cardenas Market, Costco and Regency Food Service. All 16,495 have been provided by Prime Time Produce.

Look for the Prime Time Produce brand when you are grocery shopping and if possible do your shopping at Cárdenas' Market, Costco, Food for Less or Winco. Support our local suppliers.

ON-GOING SPECIAL THANKS:
Thanks to all that pitched in to help make clean up during and at the end of packing so much quicker and easier.  Please remember there are many tasks available during packing and with everyone pitching in we are able to get things done quickly and efficiently.  I value your time and want to use it with the utmost respect and efficiency.

RECAP OF DELIVERY DAY SEPTEMBER 19:

FACTOID: Since June of 2009, 1106 volunteers have delivered 16,495 boxes and 758,000 pounds of food to 6753 trailers and 73,650 people.

With temperatures in the low 90's, Sister Terestia, Chris Hilton, Jack Gradias, Tom Flynn and several other local Duroville residents distributed the food we had packed earlier in the day.

Sister Teresita received 300 boxes. Approximately 165 boxes were allocated for Duroville with the remaining 135 boxes designated for distribution to the 12 additional communities (in the valley) we have been assisting during the summer. As Duroville gets smaller, it is great to see we are able to expand further into the surrounding communities. As you can see, our mission is changing.  It is our intent to reach out and touch as many families in the Thermal Valley as possible in the months to come.

We were able to provide 40 boxes to the Galilee Center. The Galilee Center distributes our food as part of their weekly distribution program. This is another attempt to reach as many of people in need as possible.

We gave Martha's 60 boxes to use in their food outreach program and thanks for their assistance each month.

Thanks again to all who made the September outreach to Duroville and other communities another big success.!!!!!!

See you all in October!!!
